About Theresa
Hello, I hope you are able to find the right counselor to help you at this present time. Finding a counselor takes a lot of courage to be open to share with someone you don't know and work on developing trust. Each time we meet, I will humbly work on earning your trust while teaching you new skills and tools to help you reach your goal.
I identify as BIPOC being a Native American therapist, M’kmaq and Abenaki ancestry. I’m a recovering addict/alcoholic of 32 years and identify as bisexual/she/her. I have a BA in Theology/Philosophy from St. Joseph's College of Maine, Masters in Counseling and Psychology from University of West Alabama, and a Master in Divinity Pastoral Care from Mercer University Atlanta. I also have an Associate Polarity Practitioner Therapy Certificate and I am currently enrolled studying as a registered practitioner (Polarity Therapy is Energy Work). I incorporate and integrate physical body work such as yoga, nutrition, and energy work into helping others. My specialties are working with co-occurring disorders (more than one thing going on at the same time such as trauma and anxiety or substance use/addictions and depression)
I love helping others help themselves and practice a client-centered approach. I practice having a non-judgmental presence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy as the foundation for counseling. Focusing on a holistic and integrative approach which helps me understand your overall wellness physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I have experience in helping others with anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma and abuse. My goal is to help you find simple, measurable, and achievable ways to create goals in a timely manner to live a fulfilling and happier life.
I am married and have two beautiful daughters and a handsome son who are my greatest teachers. My son has severe autism and has taught me a lot about being able to create and live from one's own world. I enjoy learning from others and their experiences with faith, culture and identity. My two daughters remind me of the importance of laughing often. I have two dogs who provide unconditional love. I love empowering others to create a healthier life and to live their dreams.
